Happy Guests…

At The Albaston…

“Excellent,Excellent,Excellent”… We have just got back from a six night stay at this amazing place. I can honestly say that this is the best bed and breakfast we have EVER stayed in, and we’ve stayed in quite a few! From the moment we arrived we felt instantly welcome and at ease. Greeted by Kevin, the owner, who asked our first names(and remembered them for the entire stay), he showed us to our beautiful room. He checked that it was what we had requested(a twin) and explained everything we needed to know. So far, so good. The room was spotlessly clean. The beds were the most comfortable we have ever had in a b&b. Lovely walk-in shower in the en-suite, loads of drawers and wardrobe space for our clothes and blackout blinds in both windows, beautiful elephant lamps and various ornaments, all excellent quality. The complimentary drinks box was replenished daily, including biscuits and a bottle of “perfectly drinkable tap water”, as it said on the bottle(which made us smile). This little touch was very typical of the whole building really. It was very clear that Kevin and his lovely wife, Julie were passionate about the decor of their home and the comfort of their guests. We were proudly shown around several of the nine rooms, that were empty at various times during our stay, by Kevin, and heard his future plans for improving them. Every room had a theme, all of them very different, some suites, and all furnished with great imagination and attention to detail. Even the hallways and landings displayed beautiful pictures and light fittings. On the landing outside our room there was a three-seater sofa with a Japanese theme, which was beautiful. Although we are not big drinkers, “Oscar’s Bar” was the definitive holiday maker for us. Bright and colourful, with a Hollywood theme and it’s own free juke box and well equipped bar, it was open from 7.30 every night until all the guests called it a night. A chance to socialise with the owners and other guests, instead of being in your room watching the tv, but not noisy or intrusive to the other guests who preferred not to. We have stayed in places before that advertise that they have a bar, but have then found it unmanned when we have wanted a drink, and felt uncomfortable trying to track somebody down to serve us. The dining room is bright and very spacious, so you are not sitting too close to other tables, It opens out on to a lovely, decked garden area. There was a choice of cooked breakfasts, which were freshly prepared whilst you helped yourself to the good selection of fresh fruit, cereals, homemade yogurts and jams, croissants, cheese, fresh orange juice etc. Kevin’s passion for perfection follows through to the full English, with the delicious, locally sourced sausages, which have to be a certain size(one big one!), and eggs that have to have a deep yellow coloured yolk! The bread is home made, and, also delicious. Try one of Julie’s lovely omelettes, which I highly recommend, you won’t be disappointed. The warmth of welcome, and Kev’s, laid-back, “course you can babe” attitude to every request, make The Albaston a “must” if you are staying in Torquay. We felt like we had known them for years and I was genuinely sad when we checked out. Thank you Julie, Kev and “Mum” for a wonderful holiday. We will definitely be staying with you again if we revisit the area and look forward to seeing all of your ideas for improvement(especially knocking out the wall) take fruition. Good luck and best wishes for your future years in this lovely b&b, we hope you continue to thrive

Highly recommended… Kevin, Julie & family are the nicest hosts you could wish for. You will never find a cleaner hotel. The bedroom was very classy & comfortable. The breakfasts are top notch both in terms of choice and quality. Room Tip: We chose a superior double with sea view.

The Albaston… Kevin & Julie are the best hosts I have ever come across, nothing was too much trouble.
The accomadation was done to a very high spec and the cleanliness was excellent, the breakfast is amazing with home made marmalade and jams, they even bake their own bread which is to die for.
This family run B&B is the best one I have ever stayed in and will be booking there the next time we visit Devon. Room Tip: All the rooms are recently refurbished.

Wonderful hosts… We stayed here at the end of April. New owners, Julie and Kevin treated us to a fantastic weekend, telling us best walks and places to eat. They are in the middle of refurbishment but nothing was too much trouble, and work going on was unobtrusive. Kevin’s full English is the business and the homemade jams and marmalade are highly recommended. Room was spotless and very comfortable, as was the bed, with views over the sea. Very pleasant chats in the evening in the bar and they took time out to introduce us to a nice pub down in the bay.looking forward to our next visit to a beautiful area and lovely hotel and hosts. Can’t wait to see the rest of the upgrades. The Youngs.
